Here’s some pictures I’ve taken along the way. We’re safe and sound in San Jose after short flight over from Liberia. We had to spend the night in La Playa de Coco for the night. We got caught in some crazy winds coming off the mountains en route to La Fortuna and had to head back to Liberia. It was a pretty wild ride, I was loving all the turbulence but it was actually some pretty serious up and down drafts. More on that to come. 5 a.m. wake up call tomorrow to raft the Pacuare River with Rios Tropicales!
- Fuel is subsidized and cheap in Mexico. $3.70/gallon in Mexico, quite the bargain. About $140 to top off Charlie Banana.
- Armed guard in Veracruz, Mexico. This guy told me the same as the customs officer. ALL bags off the plane por favor.
- 3-4 hour flight legs mean improvising when the bladder is full. Alex’s aim was spot on thankfully!
- Off the coast of El Salvador.
- We cut things pretty close on our last leg into Liberia, Costa Rica. The guages aren’t always accurate. Patrick figured the gas perfectly. We landed with the legal 30 minutes of fuel left. Nonetheless after fighting a 30 knot headwind we were happy to be on the ground.
- The clouds and sun have been creating all types of rainbows in flight. Another awesome pic by Alex.
- Tying down the plane in San Jose. The winds in Costa Rica have been pretty gnarly.
- Sweet pic by Alex. I’m getting tudored in the ways of the Canon S95 I’ve got. It’s a pretty dang good point and shoot camera.
- La isla de toros. Apptly named for the shape of the island.
- En route, plenty of time for photo ops.
- I thought this pic summed up traveling in the airplane. Sump to check the fuel behind the seat, Central America Lonely Planet, and Alex’s shoes kicked off while he’s chilling in the back seat.

Love the rainbow shot, and what trip album would be complete without a shot of a water bottle full of piss?? lol
Have fun rafting!
Ah, the joys of youth when peeing in a bottle ranks right up there with the first successful pottie training episode. You’re making progress!
@Emily LMAO….That was quite a bit of it too! Tell Alex no drinking before departure!
Love the pics! I’m thinking I need a new camera AND lessons. Now I know who to ask.
Happy New Year!
Alex is the man with the camera. He’s teaching me a lot so you should definitely check out one of his workshops when we get back.
