I take a toolkit with me almost everywhere I go in an airplane, but I have a natural tendency to break things. However, any trip to the third world without a basic toolkit is foolhardy. I tried to pack enough tools that I can do almost anything but also keep the weight as light as possible. Here is a picture of what I am taking.
I started with an Arsenal tool roll and wrench roll. Because being organized is key to effectively working on an airplane and I am not a naturally organized person. I find that if I don’t organize myself I spend more time searching for a certain tool than actually using it. In the bush I start wondering do I even have that tool? These tool organizers allow me to quickly and easily organize my tools so I know what I have and where it is. I also have a larger tool bag that will contain everything. Here is a list of everything in my tool bag.
- Ratcheting flat end wrenches 3/8″ – 3/4″ in the Arsenal wrench roll
- Stubby flat wrenches 3/8″-1″ in the Arsenal tool roll
- Drill bits
- Multi-meter
- Safety glasses
- Tool roll with needle nose pliers, safety wire pliers, channel locks, vise-grips, awl, 3/8″ ratchet and sockets
- Headlight
- Mac ratcheting screw-driver
- Safety-wire
- Milwaukee 12v drill motor (I absolutely love this tool)
- Mechanic’s gloves
- Random hardware kit in fishing tackle box
Total weight: 28lbs
